PET BEDS
1. Start with a half-yard or something like you'd use for a pillowcase.
2. Fold in half, right sides together and sew it on two of the sides, leaving one open. If you're using flannel, either use a serger or zig-zag the seam allowance. With its looser weave, flannel needs some extra stitching to withstand puppy chewing.
3. Turn the bag right side out and stuff it. You can use polyester filling, but Justine likes to fill them with sewing scraps. Just don't pack them full, they need to be under-filled. See the picture of three finished beds, below.
4. Sew it closed.
Photos from the group effort.
Lydia's sewing bag is hilarious.
Next month: 2 Blocks of the Month, presented by Charlene and Sandra
Bring to the March meeting:
For Charlene's block, Churn Dash
From one fabric (the background), Charlene suggests a solid:
4 1/2" x 4 1/2" square
5" x 5" squares, cut 2 of these
19" x 2 1/2 strip
From second fabric, Charlene suggests a print:
5" x 5" squares, cut 2 of these
19" x 2 1/2 strip
For Sandra's block, Twin Darts
From one fabric:
4" x 4" squares, cut 2 of these
5 1/4" x 5 1/4" squares, cut 1 of these
2" x 3 1/2" rectangles, cut 2 of these
2 3/4" x 3 1/2" rectangles, cut 4 of these
From second fabric, that contrasts with the first fabric:
cut the same pieces as you did for the first fabric
Planning for April - Leslie's binding class
Bring something that's already quilted and ready to bind. Ideally, it's something small like a placemat or a table runner.
Bring the binding you want to use on it.
She will send more instructions by email.
