Bracelet Project month

We welcomed 3 new members this month!

Show & Tell

Jean R just got this back from Leslie who quilted it.

Sandra O’s Wanda the Witchy Witch top is ready for Leslie to quilt it.

Leslie just finished this quilt from a Bonnie Hunter pattern.

Terry’s PROGRAM

Most brought fabric tubes already made.
A suggestion was to turn them by using a darning needle.
For more bulk, the tubes can be filled with cord.
If not filled, flatten the tubes with the seam on one flat side that can be positioned facing the wrist.
Use a binder clip to hold the 3 tubes together and braid them.
Terry brought bar clamps for the closures.  Buttons also work.

Lots were made:

Next Month

Jean R handed out instructions for the t-shirt quilt(s) we will make for donation.

April Project: Handy Baskets

It was great to see so many members and guests for this project-oriented meeting!

We were saddened to learn of Janet Kime’s passing.

Show & Tell

Patti has been attending a Norwegian themed summer camp for years.  This quilt is made from the camp t-shirts.

Patti participated in a Roxanne class for bear paws years ago.  This quilt was the result.  She says one of the blocks isn’t oriented correctly.  Can you find the one?

Jean S made a new cross-body tote from a Pendelton wool and wax canvas.  The pattern is Fremont by Klum.  https://klumhouse.com/products/fremont-pattern

Ruth made this baby quilt for donation entirely from her stash!

Lydia made another Mondo bag.

Lydia made this quilt from a jelly roll. She says she’ll do “no more bias!”

Sandra O’s niece made both of these quilts and Leslie quilted them.

Cork “Handy Baskets”

The instructions were a little confusing, so we all appreciated Leslie’s help.

Some of us put the cork on the outside of the basket and some put it on the inside.

Next Month: BOMs

Joann and Terry will present blocks.

Joann handed out a cut list:

    Background: 5" x 15" strip
    1st color: 5" x 12 1/2" strip
    2nd color: 2 1/2" x 17" strip
    3rd color: 5' X 15" strip

Watch your email for Terry’s cut list.

Bring your sewing machine, fabrics, etc. to the May meeting.

September small projects

One order of business: We need to go through the closet at our current location and decide what to take with us to the new location in January.  We could do it next month for the Auffle, or sometime in the following two months.

SHOW & TELL

Jean R made this for donation to Youth Care.  The backing is fun and below the picture of the top.

Leslie abandon this Bonnie Hunter designed quilt years ago and picked it up again recently.  After making a few more blocks, she finished it.

Marleen made this for donation.

Lydia made this from a new baby quilt pattern.

Lydia made this for her niece, whose sons are obsessed with "blue", meaning their dogs.

Lydia found this at a craft show: A zipper pull made from a wooden spool and some Kaffe fabric.

Projects

Barbara's snowman

This is her 50 year old version and she brought kits for us to make one from the precut pieces and notions.  It's entirely kid-friendly in that it is soft and stuffed with polyester fiberfill.

Lydia's snap wallet / gift card holder

Lydia also brought precut pieces so that we could construct these on site.  Instructions in brief:

  • Cut 2 pieces from the pattern from a non-directional fabric and cut one from fusible interfacing
  • Apply interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric intended for the outer side.
  • With right sides together, start sewing at one of the marks on the long edge, and sew the long way around to the other mark.
  • Turn it right side out and press flat.
  • Edge stitch around the top.  This is the flap on the holder that will hold half of the snap.
  • Fold the wings in and edge stitch through all layers, so that the entire holder is edge stitched.
  • Apply a snap so the flap can be secured to the body of the holder.
Here are two pictures of Lydia's, one with the flap open and one with it closed.

Here are the holders that were made during the meeting.

June meeting: Skills demo, paper embossing

On this lovely evening, the meeting was well attended!

We started with Show & Tell and proceeded to Justine's tutorial in paper embossing.

Show & Tell

Barbara's daughter found this king-sized quilt top at a thrift store AND got it for half-price, a whopping $4.  Incredible.  The picture doesn't show it: the thin black strips surrounding the blocks are piping.

Sandra O's nieces made these 2 quilts and Leslie quilted them.  The first has a blue Minky back.

Marlene made the May Block of the Month blocks and also one of our standard charity quilts.

Ruth made this one.

Jean R constructed and Leslie quilted these 3 for donation.

Featured Program

Justine brought all the supplies except pencils and scissors.  She passed out card stock for the embossing backing and packets of 1" square papers in a variety of colors and designs.

We were directed to choose 3 sets of squares.  Two sets of 5 squares to form the heart, and one set of 6 squares to form the background.  Some of these would need to be cut on the diagonal for placement.

Prep the backing by drawing in the midlines to use as placement lines.

Next, arrange the selected squares in the heart arrangement on card stock to our preference and in the scheme:

When we were happy with the arrangement, use a glue stick to adhere each square and triangle to the card stock.

Now it was time to choose one of the three patterns to use in Justine's embossing machine.

Next, we trimmed our hearts.

Then we glued the trimmed hearts to a folded blank greeting card.

There are lots of photos of finished cards, so some cards show up more than once below.  Lots of us made two cards.

NEXT MONTH

Jean R will lead us in making a charity quilt.

Bring a piece of fabric that is 12 1/2" square and is any combination of blue and orange in color.
